Cells in the Body of Christ

Each cell in a human body is essentially the same.  Although they differ in end purpose, the structure and system of replication are the same.  In numerous Scriptures, the Lord gave us an analogy, “ He, the Father, made Him, the Son, to be the Head of the Church“ “…now we are the body of Christ.”  Thus, the Head and Body make up the Church.   He refers to body parts, i.e. the hand, eye, and ear to name a few.  He also refers to the functions of the body i.e. hearing, seeing and smelling (aroma).  The Lord gave us this analogy so we can relate to and understand how His Body, the Body of Christ, is to function.

We look at biology basics we gain the understanding of how a human body grows and functions.  Because of God’s analogy we can overlay and apply these basics to the Body of Christ, the Church.

Each “local” church is intended to be a cell in the Body of Christ.  Cells have certain structural and functional guidelines built-in.  Cells in the Body of Christ have those same guidelines.  One may reference an encyclopedia or a “Gray’s Anatomy” to learn the structure and function of a human cell.  In Eph. 4:11 God gives us an outline of the structure of a cell in the Body of Christ:  “…and He gave some Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelists some Pastors and Teachers”.  Each ministry gift is on an equal plane with the others and none are above or below the other.  The functional is explained as we continue reading that verse, “…for the perfecting (maturing) of the saints, for the work of the ministry.”

All cells grow naturally unless genetically altered.  Because mankind has a free will, we can choose to not allow the cells in the Body of Christ to grow naturally.  In essence we can genetically alter these cells; the church has done so.  When a cell is altered, both in the human body and in the Body of Christ, a mutation is the result.  The body / Body has a defense system that excludes the mutant or rebellious cells from being a functioning part of the body / Body.

Is the cell that you are part of a mutant or rebellious cell?  Ask the Lord and He will tell you.  The Lord said the He would build His Church on the Rock of revelation so it would not be appropriate for me to give you those specifics here.  He has authorized me to provide you with a brief definition and operational picture of each of the five ministry gifts:

  1. Apostle: a visionary and goal setter, one who works with the other four gifts.  In building a work (church or cell) will, a long with the Prophet, build the foundation.  Overersee's the distribution of food to the Body making sure that all four-food groups are represented.  Also works with the Prophet and the Teacher in setting up the structure.  (Like the thumb on a hand is able to touch and interact with the other four fingers, so is the Apostle.)
  2. Prophet: a seer and intercessor.  One who hears from the Heart of God and can exhort the Body.  Provides bread to the Body, which builds faith.  Works with the Apostle in laying foundation.  Participates in the structure building aspect.
  3. Evangelist: Heart for the lost.  Brings in the people.  Provides the basics (milk of the Word) to the Body.
  4. Pastor: Encourages and nurtures the Body.  Builds the Fruit of the Spirit in the members.
  5. Teacher: Skilled in serving the Meat of the Word and is able to dice up the steak into bite-sized pieces so that even younger members can receive Meat.

You may be asking yourself, “…now what do I do?  It is simple; seek the Lord and ask Him what to do next.  This information that you now have is more vital than I can express here.  But you cannot leave it alone; you must respond.  Jesus said to either be hot or cold.  You must either get with His program 100% or get out of the program.  You cannot be lukewarm or “try” to get with the program.  You must be a doer of the Word.  If you decide to get with the program, the first step is to repent (change your thinking).  Then seek Him for Revelation and depend on the Holy Spirit to teach you so you don’t rely on the “doctrines of man” and, above all, do not try to figure out the “how-to” in your mind.
